Tour Overview
I. Introduction to the Company
Huaneng
Shandong Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Company (referred as HSNPC), located in
Rongcheng city of Shandong Province, is a subordinate company of China Huaneng
Group. Founded in Jan. 2007, HSNPC is responsible for the construction and
operation of High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor Pebble-Bed Module
Demonstration Project (referred as HTR-PM Demonstration Project). The HTR-PM
Demonstration Project is the first of its kind to possess the conceptual traits
for Gen-IV nuclear energy systems.
II.
Progress of the HTR-PM Demonstration Project
Key
milestones of the HTR-PM have been achieved as follows.
On
December 9, 2012, the first concrete for the Nuclear Island foundation plate
was poured, marking the official start of the project. On December 20, 2021,
the unit was connected to the grid for the first time, generating the first KWh
of electricity from the first commercial Gen-IV nuclear power project. On
December 6, 2023, it was put into commercial operation.
III.
Planning of the Site
Shidao
Bay nuclear power site is one of the few excellent coastal sites which are
qualified for development and construction of large-scale nuclear power units
in China. Besides the HTR-PM Demonstration Project and two CAP1400 PWR units,
another four HPR1000 PWR units are envisioned to be built on the site, and unit
one has began construction in July, 2024.

Site Tour
The
site tour will begin at the Science and Technology Hall, then move on to the
Simulation Room, and finally head to the main Structures of the HTR-PM. The
2-hour visit allows 40 minutes per stop. At each stop, an English-speaking
guide will offer detailed explanations and answer your questions.
